The child was transported from Calabria aboard a Falcon 900 of the Italian Air Force
A newborn of just three days in imminent danger of life was transported urgently from Lamezia to Ciampino, around midnight last night, with an aircraft of the Italian Air Force. The intervention allowed the child to be admitted to the “Bambino Gesù” hospital in Rome in a short time.
The child was embarked on a Falcon 900 of the 31 ° Stormo di Ciampino inside a special thermal cradle and under the constant control of a specialized medical team.
The request for transport, as always happens in these cases, was received by the Prefecture of Catanzaro at the Situation Room at the Summit of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which among its functions also has that of arranging and managing this type of missions in favor of the population.
The Summit Situation Room then activated one of the aircraft that the Armed Forces keeps 24 ready for hours on 24, in various bases, for this kind of need.
Towards the 23.30 the Falcon 900 took off from Ciampino airport in the direction of Lamezia airport, from where it left as soon as the boarding operations were completed. After landing, which always took place at Ciampino shortly after midnight, the baby was transferred by ambulance to the Roman hospital to receive all the specialized care.
Through its Flight Departments, the Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate even in critical weather conditions to ensure urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this kind of activity by the aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino, of the 14 ° Stormo of Pratica di Mare and of the 46a Air Brigade of Pisa.
