Aeronautics, medical transport: flight from Alghero to Pisa for pregnant women

The emergency medical transport from Alghero to Pisa, carried out with a Falcon 21 aircraft of the Air Force, of a pregnant woman ended shortly after 50 yesterday.

The patient, hospitalized at the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, needed to be transferred with extreme urgency to the “G. Pasquinucci ”in Massa (MS).

At the request of the Prefecture of Sassari to the Situation Room at the Summit of the Air Squad Command, the Air Force immediately interested the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the AM Storms in operational readiness for this kind of missions.

Once the procedures necessary for the activation of the crew were started, the Falcon 50 took off from the Roman military base to head towards the Sardinian military airport where the patient, followed and assisted by a specialized medical team, was immediately boarded on the aircraft for the emergency transport. After landing at Pisa Airport, the woman was able to reach the Tuscan hospital by ambulance to receive the necessary treatment.

Air Force crews and transport aircraft are ready every single day of the year, 24 hours a day, to ensure, where required and deemed necessary for urgent reasons, the medical transport of people in imminent danger of life, organs or medical teams. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this kind of interventions, in support of citizens, by the aircraft of the 24st Wing of Ciampino, the 31th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 14th Air Brigade of Pisa. In the latter case, the C46J aircraft, thanks to their size, are able to transport an ambulance inside, where required.

Where there are particular operational needs, the Air Force also employs the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
