The child, in danger of life from respiratory failure, traveled inside an ambulance loaded directly on board a C130Jel of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa
The emergency medical transport of a one-year-old girl from Lamezia Terme (CZ) to Ciampino (RM), carried out with a C130J aircraft of the Italian Air Force, ended overnight.
The little patient needed to be transferred urgently to the “Bambino Gesù” pediatric hospital in Rome.
Specifically, it was necessary to use a C-130J of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, suitable for embarking the ambulance in which the child traveled, monitored and assisted in breathing, together with a health team. and a parent.
The life-saving flight was activated, at the request of the Prefecture of Cosenza, by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Force Squad Command which immediately involved the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, one of the Departments that carries out the operational readiness service for this kind of mission.
Carried out all the necessary procedures by the military crew, the aircraft took off from Pisa airport in the late evening to head towards the airport of Lamezia Terme where the little patient, aboard the autombulance, was immediately boarded on the aircraft for the emergency transport. After landing at Ciampino Airport after midnight, the ambulance went to the pediatric hospital in the capital to receive the necessary treatment.
Air Force crews and transport aircraft are ready every single day of the year, 24 hours a day, to ensure, where required and deemed necessary for urgent reasons, the medical transport of people in imminent danger of life, organs or medical teams. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this kind of interventions, in support of citizens, by the aircraft of the 24st Wing of Ciampino, the 31th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 14th Air Brigade of Pisa. In the latter case, the C46J aircraft, thanks to their size, are able to transport an ambulance inside, where required.
Where there are specific operational needs, the Air Force also employs the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
