Algeria. Pacific: mission confirms the Government's commitment to guaranteeing energy security

"Today's government mission in Algeria is only the latest stage in the diplomatic action carried out by President Draghi. In recent months, Italy has regained its natural leading role in the Mediterranean. In addition to reaffirming the solid friendship between our countries, the visit to Algiers includes the signing of bilateral agreements in various sectors, including energy and ecological transition. Algeria has proved to be a reliable partner in North Africa. Russia's unjustified and unprecedented aggression against Ukraine exposed the European Union, and Italy in particular, more than other areas in the world given our country's strong energy dependence on Russian gas. Algerian oil company Sonatrach has already announced a further increase of 4 billion cubic meters for its gas supplies to Italy this year. This will help ensure the security of energy supplies already in the short term. Furthermore, Algeria, as a border country, plays a key role in the stability of Libya through its experience in the field of national reconciliation, the only way out of the crisis.".

This was declared by Senator Marinella Pacifico (Coraggio Italia, Mixed Group), foreign member and secretary of the Schengen, Europol and Immigration Parliamentary Committee.
