Other Trump in the Czech Republic, Babis wins elections

The victory for the renewal of the Chamber of Deputies, the populist movement of tycoon Andrej Babis and more generally the anti-system, anti-EU and in any case anti-euro forces was clear. In fact, the exploit of the xenophobic party of direct democracy, the SPD, is impressive, reaching 11% of the votes, reaching second place in the ranking, as is the success of the Pirates, which reached 10%. The affirmation of these two parties was expected, but observers did not think it could be of such magnitude. The first party is therefore Ano (which in Czech means "Yes"), acronym of Akce nespokojenych obcanu, or Initiative of discontented citizens, a formation of which Babis is the founder and owner. Ano won almost 30% of the votes and 78 deputies out of 200, almost double compared to 2013. With these figures, any hypothesis of the next ruling coalition cannot be separated from the Czech Babisconi party, the name with which he is called Babis for the similarity of his political ascent to that of Silvio Berlusconi. The hypothesis of the "grand anti Babis coalition", which someone had envisaged, but which would lack sufficient figures, is also disappearing. What stands out, but in a negative sense, is the defeat of the Social Democrats of the CSSD, at the head of the country in the last four years, standing at 7,5%, who therefore blame the loss of more than two thirds of the deputies. The other historical force of the Czech left, the Communists of the Kscm, is also bad, with 8% of the votes, whose representation in the House seems destined to be reduced by half. Again with regard to traditional parties, the Christian Democrats of the Kdu-Csl - another force of the government expiring their mandate - appear to be in considerable decline, but still capable of overcoming the 5% barrier. Moving on to the center-right, we note the advance of the Civic Democrats of the ODS, at 10,84%, who should be able to count on about 24 mandates, a third more than in 2013. These days, their traditional politics has obviously rewarded them Eurosceptic, but they are still far from the times in which to guide them was Vaclav Klaus, forerunner in Europe of anti-Brussels politics. Barring last-minute surprises, pending the final results of the count, even the liberal conservatives of the Top 09, despite a bleeding of almost four-fifths of the consensus, should manage to stay in the new Chamber. In confirmation of the predictions of the eve, which spoke of the possibility of considerable parliamentary fragmentation, even a ninth political force should have overcome the barrier of 5%, namely the independent mayors, Stan, a movement that debuts at the highest levels of politics national, after having given good evidence of self in recent years at the local administration level. Returning to the possible hypotheses of future government, with these results, the most accredited variant could be that of the renewal of the coalition leading the country in the last four years, composed of the party of Babis, along with the Social Democrats and Christian Democrats. Both parties, on the eve of the vote, have shown themselves in the last few months possible in this direction, on condition that Babis is not part of the government, given his position in conflict of interest, to which is added the recent accusation of fraud to the EU, for which the House has given permission to proceed.
