The Foreign Office's OK arrives at the appointment of Pompey as Secretary of State

Yesterday, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States Senate voted favorably for the candidacy of Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State, thanks to the decision of the Republican Senator Rand Paul who, by reviewing his decision, gave his consent.

Pompeo, chosen by Donald Trump and currently director of the CIA, must now wait for the confirmation of the Senate with a plenary vote that will take place over the weekend.

The passage from the Commission was uncertain until the last due to the opposition of Democratic members and Republican Rand Paul, who had always spoken out against the appointment of Pompeo, whose decisions on the war in Iraq and on the surveillance programs of the intelligence agency.

But yesterday, just before the vote, Paul, after having a conversation with Pompeo, decided to give his support to the director of the CIA. "I changed my mind," he explained. “Pompeo assured me that he had learned the lesson. Only time will tell if these guarantees are sincere or not ”.
