The prestigious "Scientific Achievement Award" of NATO is awarded to Leonardo

Leonardo, as a member of the "Modeling & Simulation" team, received the "Scientific Achievement Award" from the NATO organization dedicated to military scientific and technological research (NATO STO - Science & Technology Organization) for its contribution to the development of a innovative approach to training and simulation. The new method is based on the “Modeling & Simulation as a Service” (MsaaS) paradigm, internationally recognized as the last frontier for modeling & simulation systems. The announcement was made at Euronaval, the exhibition dedicated to the naval sector, underway in Paris.

In this context, Leonardo, in collaboration with the NATO "Modeling & Simulation Center Of Excellence" (CoE) in Rome, conceived OCEAN (Open Cloud Environment Application), a prototype of a Cloud platform to provide a simulated training service for military systems advanced systems that uses immersive eD virtual reality.

The solution, developed by Leonardo in the Genoa plant, will allow customers to move from an extremely rigid distributed training system to centralized systems based on Cloud, which will be able to provide on demand services, and will be configurable according to user needs. The student's station will no longer be a physical system installed in a specific place, but a mobile terminal from which to connect remotely to the various services.

The award is an important recognition of Leonardo's approach to innovation and is consistent with the company's development strategy, which sees technology as a key factor to compete on the market, as envisaged in the business plan.

The Science & Technology Organization is the leading NATO organization for defense applied science and technology and is the largest research group in this field. With a network of over 4.000 scientists and engineers from all countries of the Alliance and its partners, it promotes and carries out cooperative research in the military field. The organization inherits the tradition of NATO's Advisory Group for Aerospace Defense, formed in 1952.
