Nigeria LNG expansion project launched

Eni and its partners in Nigeria LNG (NLNG) have taken the final investment decision for the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant expansion project. This development, which is expected to be operational in 2024, will increase the plant's annual production capacity from the current 22,5 million tons per year (Mtpa) to over 30 Mtpa.

The expansion will allow an increase in production equal to 7,6 Mtpa of LNG, of which 4,2 from a new liquefaction line (Train 7) and 3,4 from the upgrading of existing lines. NLNG is a world-class 6-line LNG plant that has been in operation since 1999. In 20 years, the plant has delivered over 4.700 LNG cargoes worldwide. With this expansion, it will become one of the world's leading LNG hubs and enable partners to further enhance Nigeria's abundant associated gas resources.

Eni is a founding partner of NLNG and holds a 10,4% stake. Other partners are NNPC (49%), Shell (25,6%) and Total (15%). This project will also add over 1 Mtpa of capacity to Eni's global LNG portfolio.

Eni has been present in Nigeria since 1962, with managed and unmanaged exploration, development and production activities in onshore and offshore areas of the Niger Delta. In 2018 Eni's equity production was 100.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
