“There is news of riots in Italian prisons. Dead, injured, violence, wards destroyed and the prison police struggling to contain the anger of the women and men detained, alarmed by news coming from outside. Faced with this situation, we certainly cannot turn away: we must intervene quickly and decisively to appease the riots, avoid that there may be other victims, restore the situation to calm and guarantee the prisoners that treatment of dignity that the Constitution itself calls . We take all necessary measures to contain the emergency in our penitentiaries before the situation worsens further. And we stand alongside the prison police officers and the world of volunteering which, despite everything, continues its meritorious work. There is no time to lose!".
