Bellanova: in the new CAP, the role of the regions environmental ambition and resources must go hand in hand

From the role of the regions in the strategic plan of the future CAP to the need to balance the level of "environmental ambition with the resources available"

These are the two points that Minister Teresa Bellanova wanted to highlight a few minutes ago by speaking at the session of the Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers dedicated to the CAP post-2020 Reform Package. "We appreciate", said Minister Bellanova, "the effort aimed at simplifying the governance model of the future Strategic Plan but we believe that the entire system is still too complex and difficult to manage and that ample room for improvement is possible on this.

We believe that the current proposal does not fully satisfy the just expectations of the Regions, which must be able to play a very different role in the management of rural development policies, and that the shareable environmental ambition of the future Pac must take into account the resources available to address consistently production processes. Our farmers will be able to follow the path we are defining only if the commitments to be implemented are adequately compensated.

The agricultural sector, in addition to measures on the mitigation of climate change, needs, more than other productive sectors, appropriate adaptation measures, to face the numerous problems caused by the current climate changes.

For this reason, in the package of actions aimed at the environment and climate, we asked for measures such as mutual funds to cover catastrophic risks in the face of climatic or phytosanitary emergencies and in the coming weeks we will present a specific proposal".
