Bologna: anti-mafia blitz of the State Police

The State Police of Bologna, in collaboration with that of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Piacenza and with the coordination of the Central Operative Service, is carrying out a vast operation against the `Ndranghetistic association operating in Emilia, historically linked to the famous mafia family of the BIG ARACRI of Cutro.

The provisions issued by the magistrate at the Court of Bologna at the request of the DDA are carried out by the policemen of the Bologna mobile team in collaboration with those of Parma, Reggio Emilia and Piacenza in various provinces of Emilia Romagna. Within the scope of the operation, called Grimilde, about 300 are engaged between women and men of the State Police belonging to all the Investigation Offices of Emilia Romagna, to the Bologna Mobile Department, to the Emilia Romagna Flight Department, to the Emilia Crime Prevention Department Romagna, to the canine units of the State Police. In various cities of Italy, 100 searches are also being carried out against those who, although not directly addressees of the restrictive measure issued by the Judicial Authority of Bologna, were found to be connected to the `ndranghetistico group during the investigation operating in Emilia Romagna.

The recipients of the restrictive measure are accused in various ways of mafia-type extortion, attempted extortion, fraudulent transfer of values, illicit intermediation and exploitation of labor, damage, fraud aggravated by mafia purposes.

Among the recipients of the measures include elements of prominence of the Emilian “ndranghetistico association, including Salvatore GRANDE ARACRI, Francesco GRANDE ARACRI and Paolo GRANDE ARACRI considered to be at the top of the clan operating in the Provinces of Reggio Emilia Parma and Piacenza. Among the recipients of the restrictive measure also Giuseppe CARUSO current President of the Municipal Council of Piacenza, considered belonging to the mafia group headed by the others.

As part of the same operation, a decree of preventive seizure of assets issued by the Bologna Dda against the main members of the criminal group concerning companies, movable and immovable assets, current accounts is being implemented.

The details of the operation will be announced in a press conference scheduled at 10.30 at the Bologna Police Headquarters which will be attended by the Bologna Prosecutor Giuseppe Amato, the Director of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of the Police Francesco Messina and the Director of the Sco Fausto Lamparelli.
