2020 State Police Calendar

In the presence of Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese, Chief of Police, Director General of Public Security, Prefect Franco Gabrielli, of the President of Unicef Italy Francesco Samengo, was presented today, at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, the 2020 edition of the State Police calendar.

This year, the realization of the 12 shots that have the task of portraying the delicate role of the men and women of the State Police, has been entrusted to Paolo Pellegrin, one of the most admired signatures of Italian photography and war photographer, as well, winner of ten editions of the World Press Photo.

From the 2005 effective member of Magnum Photos, one of the most important photo agencies in the world, with his unmistakable style photographs, wanted to portray the operational activity of the women and men of the State Police, through a story that focuses on humanity of the policemen.

"In his shots the shadows and the lights are not declined for mere aesthetic purposes, but are rigorously shaped to tell stories of men, often on the margins, of wars, of humanitarian dramas. For his rigor, we asked him to tell our women and men about their daily actions through his light cuts and degrading blacks, "said the Chief of Police, Prefect Franco Gabrielli.

Passion, commitment and service, three words that best represent the authenticity of the State Police and indicate the will to always be close to the people, making their work available to the country.

Also this year the realization of the calendar has found the partenship of Unicef Italia Onlus. The proceeds of the sale will be donated to the Italian Committee for UNICEF to support the project related to the celebration of the "Thirtieth Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Adolescent", an occasion to reaffirm the rights of the under 18. Despite the fact that 30 years have passed since the signing of the UN Convention, in fact, too many children are still deprived of their rights, experiencing situations of degradation, abuse and violence.

"This year we celebrate the 30 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most ratified human rights treaty in the world, and the 20 years of collaboration with the State Police through the Police calendar. During these three decades the lives of children have changed profoundly: the deaths of children under the 50 years were reduced by more than 5%; the percentage of undernourished children is almost halved; 2,6 billion more people today have cleaner drinking water. But there are still many challenges ahead of us. Together I am sure that we will be able to save and protect many other children around the world. ", Said Francesco Samengo, President of UNICEF Italy.

Thanks to the well-established partnership with UNICEF, from 2001 to today, around 2 million and 650 thousand have been collected and several projects have been completed, including the UNICEF project "Yemen", to which the sale of the calendars of the State Police 2019 has allowed donate 176.949 euro.
