Chaos Sudan

"Stop, end the conflict“. This is the unanimous appeal to Sudan from the UN, the EU, the USA, the African Union, the Arab League and Russia.

The balance of clashes between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues to worsen in Sudan: at least 56 people are killed. About 600 are injured. This is what the Central Committee of Sudanese doctors declared on Twitter. In the capital Khartoum there were 25 dead and 302 injured. Among the victims are both civilians and soldiers.

After several coups, a slow process towards democracy was expected, in a country tormented by the various wars and the horrors committed in Darfur.

The contest to rule the country is between two generals: Hemeti, commander of the paramilitary Rapid Response Forces – RSF – e Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the sovereign army and of a provisional government junta.

The transition from a military government to one led by civilians was based on the framework agreement signed on December 5 last year. The discontent has been going on for months due to the military reform with the Sudanese army which would like to integrate the RSF into its ranks already within two years while Hemeti would like to place itself at the disposal of a civilian authority in a slower process.

The paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces are now trying to seize power to impoverish the pseudo-regular army and thus reach a negotiation.

The armed forces of Al Burhan they reported yesterday evening that they had retaken vital areas of the capital and that the situation was on the verge of being resolved.

The story goes that in 2019, demonstrations against high living prices and the pursuit of democracy had led to the downfall of Omar al-Bashir, another general, in power for 30 years.

From Darfur begins the rise of Hemeti who with his rapid intervention forces supports the demonstrations of 2019 strong of his army which since 2009 after a series of conflicts has filled more and more spaces with power and monopolizes the mountains full of gold. Enough to become the richest gold trader in Sudan. Hemeti thanks to gold maintains excellent relations with Egypt and Israel.

The other general Hemeti, on the other hand, has ties to the Emirates and the paramilitaries of the Russian Wagner group.

In Sudan there are about 150 Italians with some minors. The Farnesina crisis unit has warned Italians not to leave their homes. Even the diplomatic headquarters in Sudan was hit by gunfire.

"The Italian Government is following the ongoing events in Sudan with concern and joins the UN, AU and EU calls for an end to fighting in Khartoum and elsewhere, for the safety of the Sudanese people and to spare further violence. He therefore calls on the parties involved to abandon the path of arms, and to resume the negotiations that began some time ago, so that the Sudanese people express their choices in the context of an electoral process. Violence only leads to more violence." reads a note released by Palazzo Chigi.
