Catalfo at the G20. More employment for young people and women

Catalfo participates in the G20 of Labor Ministers: more employmention for young people and women main objectives for Italy

Minister Nunzia Catalfo participated today in the meeting, by videoconference, of the G20 Labor and Social Policy Ministers, chaired by Saudi Arabia.

The meeting concluded a cycle of work that focused on the dramatic consequences of the pandemic on the world of work and on the measures taken to counter them. The group made commitments on efforts to facilitate young people's access to the world of work, as well as on the social protection to be provided to atypical workers.

In his speeches, the Minister was able to underline how the measures taken in Italy as a consequence of the pandemic are perfectly included among those whose validity the G20 countries have recognized. The same focus on young people saw us involved in defining a road map of initiatives to accelerate the achievement of a 15% reduction by 2025 in the number of young people at risk of social exclusion.

Minister Catalfo was also able to anticipate the topics he intends to propose for discussion in 2021, when Italy will take over the presidency of the G20.

Great attention will certainly be paid to promoting greater participation of women in the labor market and to countering the phenomenon of the gender pay gap.

Italy will also lead the making of commitments in adapting social security systems to the new challenges of the labor market, which see digitalisation and the green transition as two of the most salient aspects. All this is included within a broader framework of interventions aimed at promoting decent work, to which the acquisition of constantly updated skills (this is the purpose of the newly launched new skills fund) and effective active labor policies contribute significantly.

In a context of great transformation of the labor market resulting from the digitization of production processes, among the main issues to be addressed are the discipline of platform workers, on which Italy has already made an important step forward thanks to the approval of the law on rider, and an update of the remote working rules following the great development that smart working has had during the pandemic.
