CGIA: “no to new taxes on diesel and petrol cars, 50 thousand jobs at risk

Also the CGIA of Mestre expresses a dry no to the hypothesis of a further taxation on the new petrol and diesel cars to favor the purchase of the electric ones.

“Already today in Italy the car sector has a tax burden of over 70 billion euros per year - declares Paolo Zabeo of the CGIA - a negative record that no other country envies us. Moreover, with this umpteenth sting, a large part of the 150 workers who find work in the car repair sector would also pay a heavy bill. By encouraging the electric at the expense of cars powered by petrol or diesel, many auto mechanics, for example, would risk seeing their turnover collapse, given that electric cars have very few moving parts. And it cannot be ruled out that between auto electricians and mechanics within a couple of years there would be at least 50 workers who would be forced to find another job ”. The CGIA, of course, is not against the introduction of incentives for green cars, but obviously it cannot accept that the buyers of small-displacement combustion cars who would see the purchase price rise in an unacceptable manner are "compensated" for these benefits. "After what has happened in recent weeks in France with the protest of the yellow vests - continues Zabeo - it takes a certain courage to propose a measure like this which, in fact, would tax the poor to favor the rich". Finally, from the CGIA, they recall that the car repair sector is made up of 81.000 companies, mainly of small size.

Thanks to the chamber data it is possible to have a more detailed picture of the trend recorded by the sector in recent years of profound economic crisis. Between 2009 and 2018 (data as of March 31 of each year), in Italy the sector lost 8.340 companies;

"In percentage terms - underlines the Secretary of the CGIA Renato Mason - the most significant contraction was recorded among the auto electricians with a -21 percent, followed by the body builders with -8,8 percent and, finally, the mechanics with -5,9, 8,1 percent. These figures include both artisan and non-artisan enterprises. Only the tire dealers, which increased by 2,8 percent, showed the opposite sign. It is important to note that the percentage change in the total number of companies present in Italy fell, however, "only" XNUMX per cent ".
