India sends equipment to the moon

The Indian lunar mission is called "Chandrayaan-2" will make India the fourth nation capable of placing its own equipment on the moon. The mission started from the Sriharikota Space Center in the south-east of the country.

The purpose of the expedition is to place a lander and a mobile robot near the satellite's south pole, as well as place a probe in the lunar orbit. The launch of Chandrayaan-2 ("Lunar Trolley" in the Hindi language) was originally scheduled for July 15, but the countdown was blocked 56 minutes and 24 seconds before takeoff, due to a "technical problem" that the Indian space agency ISRO has not formally specified. According to the local press, the cause was a leak in a helium cylinder of the cryogenic engine of the upper level of the Indian GSLV-MkIII rocket, a trouble of no short time. New Delhi spent $ 140 million (€ 124 million) on the Chandrayaan-2 mission, a much lower figure than other large space agencies for missions of this type. Only the Soviet Union, the United States (with the Apollo 11 mission of 20 July 69) and China have so far been able to land their own craft on the moon.
