The CIA recruits through Instagram

The CIA officially arrives on Instagram, with the blue check to confirm the authenticity of the profile. In about twenty-four hours the account has exceeded the 10mila followers. On the bulletin board, for now, only one photo appears that depicts a typical work desk of an agent with the caption that tells the normal task of a CIA agent: "I spy with my little eye ...". To spy. With eyes that are well hidden and extremely alert. This phrase, according to CBS News, would be an invitation to users to look at photography with a witty eye. In this debut post there are many elements belonging to the CIA world hidden inside what appears to be a trivial and everyday shot.

The CIA's most active social profile is that of Twitter with 2 million and a half of followers. This account is mainly used to recruit new agents and new professionals, as well as to remember the commitments and the calendar of American recurrences. In recent years, the US intelligence agency has also opened official profiles on Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Known for its secrecy, discretion and obscure espionage tactics, the US foreign intelligence service showed its sense of irony by joining the social media platform.

"We are the nation's first line of defense," says the profile biography.

His first post, however, takes on a more playful tone. Includes a photo of a desk strewn with curiously placed objects, ranging from a curly gray wig to a stack of foreign banknotes.

The challenge, it would seem, is to identify the objects in the photo. And to give you an idea, a CIA spokesman told CBS News that many of them belong to current employees.

How many can you identify?

The profile was opened as part of the CIA strategy to recruit a new generation of agents, agents and analysts.

Most users on Instagram have less than 30 years.

"Joining Instagram is another way to share CIA stories and recruit talented Americans," a CIA spokesman said.

CIA Director Gina Haspel announced plans to launch the account last week while attending a question and answer session at Auburn University in Alabama.

So what are the objects?

1) A plant, included as an ironic reference to the CIA's foreign intelligence "plants".

2) A watch whose hands are set to 8: 46, the time a plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center during the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks.

3) A map of China, one of the main American rivals in Asia.

4) A golden owl said to represent Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. It was offered by the CIA Chief Operating Officer, Andy Makridis.

5) What appears to be an amulet that looks like an evil eye - perhaps to represent the dangers faced by CIA agents?

6) A work of art that portrays Tony Mendez, a CIA officer who was the director to save six US hostages in Iran in the 1980.

7) A pair of twins, according to CIA agents to identify each other.

8) A gray wig, presumably worn by undercover CIA agents.

9) An ID containing a mug shot of Ms Haspel

10) A bag of top secret pulp, used by agents to destroy evidence.
