China, inaugural flight for AG-600, the largest amphibious aircraft in the world

The new AG-600 amphibious aircraft, the largest in production in the world, of complete Chinese conception, made its inaugural journey today.

According to the Xinhua news agency, it took off from the southern city of Zhuhaj and landed after flying about an hour.

The aircraft "Kunlong", this is its code name, has a wingspan of 38,8 meters and is equipped with four turbo engines and is capable of carrying 50 people and staying in the air for 12 hours.

Huang Lingcai, the chief designer during his statement to Xinhua said: "This inauguration flight has been a success and has made China one and the few countries capable of developing a large amphibious aircraft."

The aircraft can have military applications, but it will also be used in the fight against fires and rescue at sea.
