Colombia: serious plane crash, 14 dead

Fourteen people died from a plane crash in the Colombian plain, in the province of Meta.

The news was made known by the Colombian civil aviation agency. According to what was announced by the special civil aeronautics administration unit, the plane would have crashed after having made a distress call at 10: local 40.

The plane, owned by the Aereo Laser airline, was traveling from the southern city of San Jose del Guaviare to the center of Villavicencio and crashed about halfway through its flight, in the municipality of San Carlos de Guaroa in an attempt to make a emergency landing. The airline did not initially comment on the news but later, with a message on Twitter, mentioned the names of the victims, including the mayor of a small town in the jungle province of Vaupes.

The causes of the accident that led to the death of all those on board the plane are not yet known, according to the first data released by the agency, the airworthiness authorizations of the aircraft were updated, as were the medical certifications its crew, the agency added.
