FCA: Comment on the Group's sales results in the European car market

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles records 101.200 cars in Europe in May for a share of 7%, consolidating the significant increase compared to the previous months of the 2019: + 0,4 percentage points compared to April and + 1 percentage point compared to March. In the first five months of the year there are over 450 thousand registrations for a quota at 6,5%.

Worth noting are the results obtained by FCA in Germany, where sales increase by 2% in May and by 2,9% in the year. In Poland registrations grow by 6,2% in the month and by 6,4% in the annual progressive.

Also in May the results obtained by 500, Panda and Ypsilon are of absolute importance. The first is the most sold of the A segment in the month (+ 18,1%), the second in the annual progressive (+ 15,5%) while the Ypsilon is permanently the most sold B segment car in Italy and increases 30,8% registrations in the year.

Brand results

In May the brand Jeep matriculation beyond 16.100 cars (they had been 13.700 in April) for a share at 1,1%, + 0,1 percentage points compared to the previous month. 75.700 is the 2019 registrations - the 2,1% more compared to the 2018 progressive - and the quota is at 1,1%.

The brand achieves much better results than the average in the United Kingdom and Spain. In the UK it records + 13% in May in a market that closes at -4,6%, in Spain it closes the month at + 11,1% (-7,3% the market) and + 46,9% in the annual progressive compared to -4,7% of the market.

Among the positive results obtained by the models, there are Wrangler sales increases (+ 28,5% in May and + 72,8% in the annual progressive), Cherokee (+ 13,2% in 2019) and Renegade (+ 5,3% in the year) .

Alfa Romeo in May it records slightly less than 4.700 cars, for a share of 0,3%. In the annual progressive 24 thousand are the registrations and the quota at 0,3%.

The positive result achieved by Alfa Romeo in Spain should be noted, where the brand closes the progressive annual increase of 25,7% compared to the same period of the 2018.

In Italy Stelvio is the most sold car of the 2019 in its segment while Giulia is confirmed in the first positions among the sedans in the annual progressive.

Beyond 73.800 le Fiat registered in May, for a share of 5,1%, up by 0,3 percentage points compared to April. In the first five months of the year the brand records almost 317 thousand cars, equal to 4,6% of share.

Positive results achieved by the brand in Germany (+ 8,1% in May and + 6,8% in the year) and in France, where Fiat sales increased by 2,9% in the month.

Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda dominate the A-segment sales rankings: the first is the best-selling car in May (over 23 thousand registrations, + 18,1% compared to the same month of 2018, and share at 18,7%, the best since launch to date) and second in the annual progressive: 89.800 registrations and quota at 15,4% which reaches the record quota of 16,1% outside Italy. The Panda is the second best-selling car in the month (18.300 registrations and share at 14,85%) and is the most sold in the first five months of the 2019: 90 thousand registrations, up 15,5% for a share of 15,4%.

Together, the two cars achieve a market share of 33,6% in May and of 30,8% in the annual progressive segment. Among the other models to report the excellent result of 500X which in May increases the sales of 10,45%, of the 500L (permanently on the podium of the most sold cars in its segment), of the Tipo that in Italy is the most sold of the C segment in the 'year.

The strong positive result of Lancia continues also in May: over 6 thousand vehicles registered, 19,8% more than a year ago and share at 0,4%. In the annual progressive number the 30.400 registration vehicle with a record growth of 30,8% and 0,4% share in 0,1 percentage increase.

In Italy, Ypsilon is confirmed as the best-selling car in the B segment in the annual progress with sales volumes significantly higher than those of its competitors.
