Today the ANAS shares are conferred to FS Italiane

The entire ANAS shareholding was transferred by the Italian Ministry of the Economy and Finance (MEF) to FS Italiane following the positive opinion of the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM).

The signing of the capital increase of 2,86 billions of euro by the MEF completes the process for the creation of the first integrated pole of railways and roads in Europe for serviced residents and investments.

The details of the transaction were illustrated by Renato Mazzoncini Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of FS Italiane and Gianni Vittorio Armani, Chairman and CEO of ANAS.

ANAS joins the Italian Rail Network and Italferr, the national and international operating subsidiary in design and engineering, and the other Group companies, including Trenitalia, Mercitalia and Busitalia, passenger and freight transport companies on rubber.

In the new configuration, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane counts 81 thousand employees, 108 billion euros of investments in the next ten years and a capital invested of about 50 billion. In addition to a turnover of 2018 billion euros and an investment capacity of 11,2 billion in the 8.

The FS Italiane Group now has an infrastructural, railway and road network of approximately 44 thousand kilometers. The 2,3 billion vehicles that annually travel 64,5 billion km on the roads and motorways managed by ANAS are thus added to the traffic managed by the Group: about 750 million passengers per year on iron (including 150 abroad), 290 million by road (130 abroad) and 50 million tons of freight.

Road / rail integration. The entry of ANAS into the FS Italiane Group allows the implementation of the infrastructural integration envisaged by the 2017-2026 Industrial Plan.

In fact, it will be possible to optimize the operating and maintenance costs of the networks, generating savings of at least 400 millions of euros over the next ten years. The objective is to enhance the quality and safety standards of the road network and maintenance, starting from the supervision of the roadway, viaducts and tunnels that, over 10mila km, where road and rail infrastructures run alongside, can be carried out in an integrated way by the Italian Rail Network and ANAS operators. Operational integrations will also be possible for predictive diagnostics. The coordination between RFI and ANAS will allow, among other things, to connect logistic nodes more effectively and efficiently: ports, airports, railway stations, modal interchange points.

Investments in Italy. Thanks to the new 2016-2020 Program Agreement with the State, ANAS will manage its investments more efficiently, with a cost reduction of over 3%, quantifiable in 400 millions over five years. Moreover, over the years 3 will be able to double its spending capacity, going from 1,5 billion of 2017 to 3 billion expected in 2020, with immediate and visible effects on the rehabilitation of viaducts and tunnels, on road pavements and network quality .

The adoption of homogeneous processes to those of the other Group companies will encourage the coordination of project and negotiation activities, producing on the one hand savings for the State and on the other hand a significant increase in open construction sites, with positive repercussions also for the construction sector , for employment and for the entire economy of the country. In 2018 RFI and Italferr plans to confirm the 2017 trend, which had seen the value of tender bids published by 3,5 billion of 2016 to 7,5 billion passed. ANAS, similarly, in 2018 will pass 3 billions of euros from 2 billion of 2017.

Exit from the Perimeter of the Public Administration. With the entry into the FS Italiane Group, ANAS begins the process of exiting the Public Administration to reach the market dimension and can, therefore, immediately implement a plan that can contemplate new hires and investments in a more rapid and efficient manner, also in self-financing or with financial support from the group.

New technologies. Further integrations are planned in the sharing of know-how and technologies, developing important projects such as smart roads, intelligent roads that can be traveled by electric and driverless cars, for the benefit of safety and the environment, making Italy one of the countries pioneers in this innovation. Railway technologies such as ERTMS, the security system based on a radio block that manages high speed, can be used for experimenting with new systems of dialogue between road and car, with the medium-term perspective of autonomous driving. Furthermore, sharing best practices will allow us to develop new tools to manage the quality of roads and the technical verification of viaducts and bridges in an innovative way.

Activities abroad. The benefits of the integration will be immediately perceived also on the international markets: the Group will be able to present itself as a subject able to oversee the entire range of interventions and services related to mobility infrastructures. This is part of the internationalization objectives of the Group's ten-year business plan, which provides for an increase in total revenues from foreign operations from 13% to 23%, from one billion euros to 4,2 billion in 2026.
