Italy-Japan cooperation: joint exercise between military aeronautics

Through a complex logistical operation, the Air Force will deploy multiple assets in Japan for training activities, including four F-35 aircraft

The joint exercise will take place from 4 to 8 August at the Japanese Komatsu air base, which will see Air Force and Japan Air Self-Defense Force aircraft train together on various activities in an operational scenario.

For the Air Force, whose redeployment of vehicles will already begin in the last days of July with a complex and meticulous logistical operation, this exercise will also be an important test of the command and control network and of its ability to project, support and operate set up in a distant theater (defined as expeditionary). In fact, Italy will bring to Japan aircraft with very different characteristics of use, including the 5th generation F-35 fighters, the KC-767A tankers, the brand new CAEW (Conformal Airborne Early Warning) G-550 and the tactical transport aircraft C- 130J.

Also this training activity, aimed at further increasing the skills of the reciprocal Air Forces in terms of interoperability and operational capacity, falls within the broader collaborative relationships between Italy and Japan, which also include the agreement between the Air Force and Japan Air Self -Defense Force for student pilot training at the International Flight Training School (IFTS), based in Decimomannu.
