Bellanova: "act immediately to support supply chains and ensure food for the most needy"

“With the Cura Italia decree we increased the fund for food assistance to the poor by 50 million euros. In a few days as an Administration we developed a proposal that was made official at the competent table and I hope that the charitable bodies and all the members can appreciate the choices made. The basket of products is varied and we aim to guarantee not only the Italianness of the supplies, but also an impact on the reduction of food waste related to the containment of the virus.

It is a battle in which we do not want to waste precious time, so we have chosen to speed up the approval process for this measure for

implement it quickly ".

So the Minister of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies Teresa Bellanova comments on the proposal for the allotment of the Ministry for the Fund for Food Assistance to the Most Deprived.

It is 50 million euros, allocated by the Cura Italia decree, which aims to spread over:

  1. PDO cheeses for 14,5 million euro;
  2. PDO raw hams for 9 million euros and PDO and PGI cured meats for 4 million euros;
  3. 100% Italian fruit juices: 2,5 million euros;
  4. processed Italian fruit and vegetable preparations - soup, minestrone, preserves - for € 8 million;
  5. canned meat from cattle born, raised and slaughtered in Italy for 10 million euros;
  6. homogenized lamb meat born, bred and slaughtered in Italy for 2 million euros.

The operators participating in the tenders for the supply must undertake to purchase products from the Italian regions most affected by the COVID-19 emergency and in the periods most at risk of waste.
