"De la meta never twist your eyes"

(by Antonella Picerno, AIDR member and co-founder Knosso®) Those were the days of pride: ours is a country that can still make a difference in the cultural sphere, when humility, preparation and passionate work go hand in hand.

Giorgio Parisi shares the Nobel Prize in Physics ex aequo with Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann.

Complex systems, climate models and global warming, therefore, are the themes to which the most prestigious of the awards is addressed. But why is this such an important result?

Because complexity, as always, derives from interactions: elements interact with each other and with the environment that surrounds them, thus forming networks of interactions which, in turn, can produce new information.

The challenge was being able to have a holistic vision without losing sight of the individual.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences therefore recognizes in Parisi "the discovery of the interaction between disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from the atomic to the planetary scale", whose contributions concern spin glasses, particle physics, mechanics statistics, but also supercomputers and biology.

In the interviews immediately following the awarding of the prize, he declared that his Nobel Prize in Physics is in support of Artificial Intelligence and the planet, fields in which the need to process an enormous amount of data with structured predictive models has become essential. .

We are witnessing, nowadays, new implementations regarding the developments and applications of technology, starting from the most "simple" ones (like talking to the domestic ether by communicating the song you want to listen to), to get to those with the greatest potential (I think , for example, to the health sector).

It is a constant application of the scientific method, observing, collecting data and elaborating optimal solutions, with the awareness that human supervision remains a cardinal aspect, both from an ethical and a practical-technological point of view.

The same modus operandi (strange ... but true!) Led to the important result regarding climate change, through the physical modeling of the Earth's climate, quantifying its variability and reliably predicting global warming, thus confirming climate as a phenomenon chaotic, only apparently random.

After this absurd two-year period, in which we have all witnessed bizarre interpretations of numbers, graphs and certain sentences, we can finally touch the difference between science and pseudoscience, realizing that the first, humble and silent, leads to results that are the result of a cognitive and cultural evolution, while the second, with proud saccenza, always remains the same and, in the long run, bears no fruit.

In support of this authoritative result, the most human and moving aspect is added: the homage of the young students of Sapienza to Giorgio Parisi, who in an embrace of gratitude and esteem welcomed him with stadium choirs.

This, by the way, is the only kind of assault we like to see.

For his part, the new Nobel laureate, in thanking, interpreted everything as the result of a constructive and constant collaboration over time with his collaborators, as if to say that you can't go anywhere alone.

Technology and Planet are - literally - two sides of the same coin. In both cases there is a need to make the context safe for the user, bearing in mind what Feynman ruled some time ago: "For a technology to be successful, honesty must take precedence over public relations, because nature cannot be deceived ”.
