De Micheli: "300 million new resources for public transport"

Regions and local authorities will have to use the resources already allocated by MIT during 2020, which amount to one billion and 100 million, to cover the losses and urgently to strengthen the transport service in the pandemic.

In the Ristori bis decree approved during the night by the Council of Ministers there are new resources for local public transport: 300 million euros in advance compared to 2021, of which 100 will be used for the use of additional services, while the remaining 200 will be used for coverage of losses caused by the reduction in revenues.

This was communicated by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Paola De Micheli to the Regions and local authorities, during the meeting that was held with the Minister for Regional Affairs Francesco Boccia and in connection with the representatives of the Conference of the Regions, Anci and Upi. .

The new resources can be used by Regions and local authorities, but only when those already allocated by MIT in 2020, which amount to one billion and 100 million, have been used to strengthen the service during the pandemic.

“Local public transport needs structural measures, - explained Minister De Micheli - a reform of the organizational model that was stuck in 1997, while the world of mobility has changed. We need a project that can make it more efficient and sustainable, and suitable for the prospect of a complete reopening of schools and activities in safety. This is why in the Ristori bis Decree we anticipate 300 million in 2021 to allow LPT companies to reorganize immediately. These are funds that are added to the 12 billion allocated over 5 years for investments in ecological buses and the construction of new rapid mass transit systems in cities. We cannot miss this unique opportunity, also offered by the slowdown in travel flows due to the health crisis. The use of these funds by the Regions and local authorities will be a litmus test for us of the role they intend to play: next week we will provide the guidelines of the Ministry to start the comparison and redesign the services “.
