Defense: organic reduction postponed to 2033

The Senate yesterday definitively approved (with 196 votes in favor, 12 against and 2 abstentions) the law revising the model of fully professional armed forces. The provision contains the extension to 2033 of the deadline for the reduction of the total staffing to 150.000 units and the delegation to the government for the revision of the national military instrument. "A great result - according to the Minister of Defense Lorenzo Guerini (Pd) - the result of two years of work and discussion, obtained thanks to the unanimous commitment of all parliamentary groups and the government".

The law, informs the Defense, will make it possible to reduce the period of stay for access to permanent service from the current 11 years to 6 years and to reduce the age limits for entry to initial careers. The delegation to the executive will instead allow, in line with the evolution of the international geopolitical framework, theincrease in the total staffing up to a maximum of 10.000 units of highly specialized military personnel in the technical, logistic and health sectors. It also provides for the establishment of an auxiliary state reserve and the reform of military health, finally introducing the possibility of intervening with flexibility measures in the equipment of the individual armed forces. For the minister Guerini it is the right way to "to recruit younger staff for operational activities, with better career prospects and salary".

"A decision, that of today in the Senate, "States the Undersecretary, Stefania Pucciarelli "mature and responsible, of absolute value for the good of the Armed Forces and of Italy ".
“The goal is to have professional soldiers, young people, in adequate numbers, prepared and with modern and safe equipment"Concludes Senator Pucciarelli"this is the right way for an effective defensive military instrument at the service of us all and for a better future ”.
