Defense, Volpi: "Solidarity with the men of the institutions"

Four envelopes containing five bullets and the photo of the former senator Pd Stefano Esposito with a viewfinder drawn on his face, addressed to the prefect Claudio Palomba, to Esposito himself and to the Ansa and LaPresse news agencies, were intercepted yesterday afternoon during security checks at the sorting center of the Post Office in via Reiss Romoli. The letters, identical to each other and therefore attributable to the same sender, were seized by the men of the Police Headquarters and handed over to Digos, which was entrusted with the investigation into the disturbing episode.

Thus in a note, the Undersecretary of State for Defense Hon. Raffaele Volpi commented on the story: "I express my solidarity with a man of the State such as the prefect of Turin and with Senator Esposito, who in the diversity of ideas had and has my esteem and my sincere friendship. Just as I also strongly condemn the threats to the press, which are vilely attacked today. Neither the cowardice of the anonymous threat nor the instrumental and cowardly use of intimidation can find space, in any form of debate and on any topic, regardless of its importance.

I believe, adds the undersecretary, that we cannot reach moments already experienced in their drama without the firm dissociation on the part of all those interested in the issue of the TAV. I still have in my memory the phrases of a bygone era where the political justification of a certain left reached its peak in the famous phrase "comrades who are wrong". There can be no belated reactions to methods and means of intimidation that are not justified in any political position even in the most bitter and harsh confrontation.

I express feelings of indignation and condemnation, in a strong and formal manner, with respect to these cowardly acts and to all those who do not come forward to condemn them.
