Puglia: Confagricoltura calls for the intervention of the region in favor of Mitiliculture

The abnormal temperatures that have hit our peninsula and in particular southern Italy are causing great damage not only to agricultural cultures but also where water is abundant. Not just agricultural fields and crops, but also marine mollusks such as mussels and oysters that die due to the too high temperatures that are literally boiling the waters of the two seas.

Luca Lazzaro, president of Confagricoltura Taranto explains: "It is the new emergency that is accompanied by heat waves and is putting in serious difficulty the tarantina mussel farming. At risk there are the renowned mussels cultivations of the Mar Piccolo and also the oysters, delicacy that has taken root in the waters of the Great Sea for some years, thanks to the entrepreneurial challenge and the happy intuition, transformed into a patent, of the Ittica Jonica cooperative. Many months of work ended up in the pulp, so it is necessary and urgent to intervene with appropriate support tools. It is up to the Puglia Region, in particular the Agriculture Department, to collect this cry of alarm and turn it into operational decisions ".
