Road education, schools at the forefront

Numerous young people trained with the educational programs promoted by MI. This was revealed by the annual report of the EDUSTRADA project

Also this year the training offer on road education promoted by the Ministry of Education through EDUSTRADA, the national project carried out in schools in synergy with the main Institutions responsible for teaching road education: State Police, Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, Department of Psychology of the “Sapienza” University of Rome, Automobile Club of Italy, ANIA Foundation, Italian Cycling Federation, Italian Motorcycle Federation.

The data that emerged in the annual monitoring report are encouraging: in the school year 2020/21, didactic training, in mixed mode - classroom attendance and webinar mode - reached 1.396 schools, involving 96.564 female students. On the other hand, 1.977 teachers took part in the training programs.

The highest participation on the national territory involved secondary schools (42%), followed by secondary schools (25,64%), primary schools (23,57%), nursery schools (7,38%). It is also interesting to note another aspect: most of the teachers have participated in so-called “multisession” projects which contemplate further training initiatives for the next few years. This demonstrates a consolidated interest in road education. The teachers interviewed also expressed positive evaluations on the training experiences proposed in schools, both in terms of the effectiveness of the contents and of replicability within the same institute.

However, in order to educate young people in the constant adoption of correct behavior on the road, it is necessary to continue to spread the culture of safe driving.

In continuity with the activities promoted by the EDUSTRADA project, the MI makes available to teachers, also for the new year, the registrations to the training offer on the website www.edustrada.it until 31 October 2021. There are over 25 free training courses that include face-to-face training and webinars, competitions on the issues of road safety and sustainable mobility, practical activities, teaching material. Among the proposed initiatives there is also the video on the safe use of the scooter made by MI, in collaboration with CNEL and the traffic police and accompanied by in-depth didactic material by the “Sapienza” University of Rome.
