Pratica di Mare HH-139B helicopter transports polytraumatized woman from the island of Ponza to Latina

The intervention, carried out on the evening of Easter Monday on the Ponza – Latina route, in conditions of reduced visibility, was carried out with an HH-139B helicopter from the 85th SAR Center of Pratica di Mare

It was completed late yesterday evening urgent medical transport in favor of a polytraumatized lady of about 65 years of age who urgently needed to be transported fromPonza islandatSanta Maria Goretti hospital in Latina.

The activation request arrived on the public holiday of Easter Monday, From Prefecture of Latina al Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) of theAerospace Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico (FE) which has, among its tasks, also that of managing this type of missions in favor of citizens in difficulty.

The RCC has thus activated the85th Center Search and Rescue (SAR) of Pratica di Mare – the closest, among the Air Force SAR centers, to the intervention area – which immediately made available a HH-139B helicopter. The crew, in emergency response, first took off in the direction of Latina to take on board a medical team needed to assist the woman during the flight, and subsequently headed towards Ponza.

Taking advantage of the night flight capability with the use of the special NVG viewer (Night Vision Goggles) and the on-board systems for flying in conditions of reduced visibility, the Air Force crew was able to recover the injured woman and quickly take her tomilitary airport"Enrico Comani” of Latina, from where she was then transported by ambulance to the local hospital. At this point the helicopter returned to Pratica di Mare shortly after midnight and resumed its usual alarm service.

THE85th SAR Center it depends on 15th Wing of Cervia which guarantees, 24 hours a day, every single day of the year, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, also contributing to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, medical transport emergency services for patients in imminent danger of life and the rescue of seriously injured patients, also operating in complex weather conditions, both day and night.

From its establishment to today, the crews of the 15th Wing have saved thousands of people in danger of their lives. The 15th Wing of Cervia, in addition to the 85th SAR Center of Pratica di Mare, also depends on the80th SAR Center of Decimomannu (Cagliari), the82nd SAR Center of Trapani,83rd SAR Group, located right on Cervia, and the84th SAR Center of Gioia del Colle (Bari).
