The Associazione Imprese Oggi, aware of the serious inconveniences that tour operators, merchants and the populations of the cities of the Gulf of Gaeta and neighboring countries are experiencing, expressed the need for the Acqualatina Company to strengthen the interventions that can counteract immediate needs of populations and businesses and active all medium and long-term interventions that solve the structural problems of water supply.
The crisis that is going through the entire Gulf of Gaeta is causing considerable damage to the entire tourist system, with repercussions on the whole Latina Province and the launch of all the commercial, service and catering activities. In fact, the lack of water is causing cancellations in hotels and reservations for private homes and b & bs and even in bathing establishments. And all this in the middle of the summer and seaside season. The Chief Executive Officer of the Soc. Acqualatina expressed its proximity to all the people who are experiencing the effects of water shortage on their own skin and illustrated both the pluviometric data and the dramatic situation of the slopes for which the South Pontino was declared the most affected area of the emergency of The whole central Italy area. Acqualatina - as also approved by the Conference of Mayors held on 18 July us - is taking all possible actions to immediately alleviate the needs of populations and businesses, and, at the same time, the interventions that can resolve the situation in the coming months. The Chief Executive Officer has listed the plan of interventions in place concerning in particular the Municipalities of the South Pontino, which includes both absolute emergency interventions such as the activation of the wells located in the Panapesca industrial area of Gaeta or the reactivation of the Forma del spring. Duca, both structural interventions, primarily an extensive and massive intervention to recover network losses for an amount of 8 million euros, but also interventions with short-term effects such as the interconnection of the Minturno water network with that of Cellole, which will guarantee 160 liters per second. Besson then recalled that Acqualatina is one of the few national realities at work for a year, on the water emergency, thanks also to a specific work plan proposed already in September 2016, and approved by the ATO4 Mayors' Conference in the month of December. Acqualatina then referred to the temporary installation of the desalination plants in the Vespucci pier in Formia, an intervention envisaged in the emergency measures in the technical proposal of the Operator, which was removed from the Conference of Mayors. At the request of those present, the CEO Besson illustrated the characteristics of the intervention, high-tech and fully sustainable from an environmental point of view, as proven by the studies carried out with the La Sapienza University of Rome. This intervention would have immediately guaranteed a further 60 liters per second over the whole of the Pontine South, making it possible to deal with the foreseeable worsening of the emergency with greater resources.
