Waste emergency in Rome: "the military will not be scavengers, only logistical help"

Faced with the inability of politics, the judiciary often intervenes to investigate the causes of ineptitude, on other occasions, when "emergency" is now declared, the military intervene. In fact, next Tuesday in the Region there will be a first meeting between Ama's sole administrator, Stefano Zaghis, defense technicians and Pisana itself to explore many hypotheses, one of all that of setting up transfer centers in abandoned military areas. The idea was launched by the Defense Region which immediately set to work at the service of the capital by identifying ten areas between Rome and the province: one of which in Castel Romano, in the city, the other seven outside of Bracciano, Sant'Oreste, Rocca di Papa, Tarquinia and Pomezia.

The administrator of Ama, Zaghis, writes Il Messaggero, is also looking for alternative solutions, hoping to find four sites in the four quadrants of the capital, even in the metropolitan city.

The Defense, however, immediately wanted to clarify its position: only logistic help, the military will not collect any garbage as it happened years ago during the emergency in Campania. Then there is another non-secondary problem, namely the legal way to change the destination of areas, which although abandoned, remain military.

The idea sparked protests from the mayors of the military areas concerned. The mayor of Tarquinia, Alessandro Giulivi, he said: "Military sites are not suitable for carrying out storage activities. I am ready as Mayor and we are ready as a community to reject this umpteenth attack by those who created the problem and today is not able to solve it ".

The colleague repeats the same concepts from Bracciano Armando Tondinelli"I am ready to take to the streets with all of Bracciano".

Problems are also found in the choice of military sites. The former air force base of Monte Cavo faces an archaeological area and does not have adequate roads for the transit of trucks. In Bracciano the former Polveriera San Savino would host structures full of asbestos and is too close to the town. In Pomezia the local administration aims to transform the former military area not far from Santa Palomba into a park, with an annexed kennel. Towards Tarquinia then sections of the Monte Romano polygon (still in operation) and the former "chemical center" would be evaluated, which however should be reclaimed.
