Eni and Pertamina, circular economy collaboration, low carbon content products and renewable energy

The President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, and Eni's Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to identify the synergies between the respective technologies, expertise and know-how, in order to identify new opportunities for collaboration in the circular economy, drivers of strategic development for Eni and their companies Syndial (Environment) e Versalis (Chemistry). The parties also intend to discuss collaborations in the development of products with low carbon content and renewable energy.

Eni and Pertamina, in particular, have agreed to identify opportunities for collaboration in the processes of transformation and valorisation of waste and biomass, also leveraging Eni's proprietary technologies (Waste to fuel, Sewage sludge conversion into boimethane production by anaerobic digestion, Advanced biofuels from biomass, Chemicals from biomass).

Eni and Pertamina will evaluate areas of cooperation in the recycling and reuse of materials: from the treatment and valorisation of water, to the recycling of polymers, to the application of eco-design processes to maximize the recyclability of end products.

The Memorandum also provides for the evaluation of collaborations in research and technological development for the valorisation of waste and waste, the biofixation of CO2 and its reuse in sustainable mobility.

Finally, the parties will discuss business opportunities, both in Indonesia and internationally, in the field of renewable energy.

Eni and Pertamina have also signed a basic agreement for a joint venture dedicated to the construction of a bio-refinery within an existing complex, in Indonesia. As part of the partnership, the key terms were also signed for an agreement on the use of Eni's bio-refining assets in Italy, based on the Eni Ecofining Technology: this will allow hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) to reach the Indonesian market.

Eni operates in Indonesia from 2001 and currently has a large portfolio of assets in exploration, production and development. The production activities are located in the Kutei basin, in East Kalimantan and are mainly associated with the Jangkrik field, in the Muara Bakau contract area, which provides a production of over 650 million cubic feet of gas, ie about 18 million cubic meters of gas per day.
