Eni and SNOC announce the start of production from the Mahani field

This start-up is the first to be built in the Sharjah emirate after the 80s. It was achieved in less than 2 years from the signing of the contract and one year from the declaration of discovery.

Eni and SNOC, the state company of the Emirate of Sharjah, announce the start of production from the Mahani field, located in the Concession Area B in the hinterland of the Emirate of Sharjah.

This is the first step towards full assessment of the Mahani gas and condensates discovery announced last January which is estimated to contain significant volumes of associated gas and condensate resources. The start of production was achieved in less than 2 years from the signing of the oil contract and within one year from the declaration of discovery.

Eni holds a 50% equity interest in the Concession called Area B, where SNOC is Operator with 50%. Eni acquired Area B in a competitive tender in January 2019.

The new production from the Mahani field is sent via a new multiphase line to the SNOC-owned Sajaa gas treatment plant where it is processed. The field production is expected to increase progressively with the connection of two additional wells whose drilling is already planned.

Eni's CEO Claudio Descalzi commented: “The start of production was achieved in less than two years from the signing of the oil contract and in less than a year from the declaration of discovery thanks to the fruitful and continuous collaboration with SNOC. This is an important result that we must both be proud of, also considering the exceptional logistical-operational difficulties faced during the current year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Exploration in Sharjah was considered to have ended in the late 80s. Instead, together with SNOC, we have shown that using state-of-the-art technology and high-level skills, even areas considered “mature” can reveal new potential ”.

Eni is committed to continuing exploration activities in Sharjah also in the areas A and C operated, including the latter in particular largely under explored, in order to contribute to the discovery of further resources for the benefit of the development of the Emirate of Sharjah .

Eni's presence in the Middle East has been further consolidated in the last two years. To date, Eni holds a total of approximately 23.000 square kilometers of exploration areas in the UAE, including the onshore areas of Sharjah and the offshore areas of Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. Eni has been present in Abu Dhabi since 2018 where it holds three development and production concessions and three offshore exploration concessions. Eni is also the shareholder with a 20% stake in ADNOC Refining.
