Eni, Gas: New discovery in the “Great Nooros Area”, Egyptian Mediterranean

In a note, Eni (operator of the Block), together with its partner bp, announces a new gas discovery in the area previously defined as the “Great Nooros Area”, in the Abu Madi West license in the conventional waters of the Nile Delta.

This new discovery, made through the Nidoco NW-1 exploration well, is located at 16 meters of water depth, 5 kilometers from the coast and 4 kilometers north of the Nooros field, discovered in July 2015.

The Nidoco NW-1 exploration well encountered gas mineralization for a total thickness of about 100 meters net, of which 50 meters in the Pliocene sandstones of the Kafr-El-Sheik formation and the further 50 meters in the Messinian sandstones of the Abu Madi formation . Good petrophysical properties were found in both levels. In particular, a new level has been crossed in the Abu Madi formation so far not encountered in the Nooros field, testing both the additional potential of the “Great Nooros Area” and the northward extension of the same Nooros field already in production since 2015.

The preliminary assessments of the well's results, which consider the northward extension of the reservoir and the dynamic behavior of the Nooros field, the new levels discovered, as well as the recently announced neighboring discoveries, bring the gas estimates in place in the “Great Nooros Area ”at about 120 billion cubic meters.

Eni will launch together with its partner bp, in coordination with the Egyptian Petroleum Sector, the development options of the new discovery, benefiting from the synergy with the infrastructures already present in the area.

Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC in Egypt, holds a 75% interest in the Abu Madi West concession, while bp holds the remaining 25%. The license is operated by Petrobel, a XNUMX/XNUMX joint venture between IEOC and the Egyptian state company Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954, where it operates through IEOC Production. Equity production is currently around 300.000 boepd.
