Eni: new oil discovery and new production in the South West Meleiha Concession in the Egyptian Western Desert

Eni announces the discovery of new oil resources in the western Egyptian desert thanks to a new exploration well in the South West Meleiha concession. Production in the dealership started just a year ago and today exceeds 12,000 barrels a day

Eni announces the positive outcome of the drilling of the SWM-A-6X well located in the South West Meleiha development and exploration concession in the Egyptian Western Desert, about 130 km north of the Siwa oasis. The well was drilled in the vicinity of existing production infrastructures and has already been linked to production.

Production from South West Meleiha began in July 2019 and in one year it has now risen to over 12.000 barrels of oil days thanks to the contribution of new discoveries.

The SWM-A-6X well, drilled in the Faghur basin up to 4,815 m of depth, met 40 meters in net oil mineralized thickness in the paleozoic sandstones of the Dessouky formation. The well has a daily production of 5000 barrels of oil.

Eni is successfully pursuing its near field exploration strategy in the Egyptian Western Desert through AGIBA, a joint venture with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), managing to quickly exploit the new resources discovered.

Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954 and is the main producer in the country, with an equity production above 300.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day
