Eni, second oil discovery in the Faghur Basin in the western Egyptian desert

Eni has announced a second light oil discovery in the B1-X exploratory prospect located in the South West Meleiha permit, in the western Egyptian desert, about 130 kilometers north of the Siwa oasis.

The well, the second one drilled by Eni on the deep geological themes in the Faghur basin, at a distance of 7 km from the first discovery, was drilled to 4.523 meters deep and met a net mineralized thickness in light oil of 35 meters in the sandstones of the Dessouky formation of the Carboniferous age and in the formation of Alam El Bueib of the Cretaceous age.

The well was opened to production in the sandstone of the Dessouky Formation with flow rates of 5.130 oil barrels equivalent to the day (BOPD) of oil to 37 API with low associated gas.

This second discovery confirms the high exploratory and productive potential of the deep sequences of the Faghur basin. Eni plans, in the short term, the drilling of other exploration prospects adjacent to the two discoveries already made that will open a new production center for Eni in the country. The production can be connected to the existing infrastructures and then sent to the terminal of El Hamra, after the approval of the development plan by the Minister of Oil.

Eni, through its subsidiary IEOC, holds the share of 100% in the South West Meleiha permit. IEOC, through the operating company AGIBA, equally 1

held with Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), it currently produces about 53 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day from the western Egyptian desert.

Eni is present in Egypt from 1954 and is the main producer of the country with an equity production of about 300 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, destined to rise in the year with the progressive growth of the production of the Zohr field.
