Erdogan expels 10 ambassadors while Italy remains steadfast in business in Turkey

Yesterday the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to his political supporters: “I ordered our Foreign Minister to do what must be done: these 10 ambassadors must be declared persona non grata, they must leave immediately. They will now know and understand Turkey.

In fact, 10 countries have signed a public petition asking to soften the line on Osman Kavala, who has been in prison for 4 years for supporting and fomenting the failed coup of 2016. Support for the liberation was given by countries of the caliber from United States, France, Germany, Canada, Finland, Denmark, Holland, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden. Italy did not join, our ambassador in Ankara never received the “placet” from the signing of the joint letter with the other 10 states.

The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli he commented on twitter: "The expulsion of ten ambassadors is a sign of the authoritarian drift of the Turkish government. We will not be intimidated. Freedom for Osman Kavala". While the president of the Democratic Party, Enrico Letta from Italy he said: "We fully support the position of the President of the European Parliament Sassoli against yet another authoritarian act by Erdogan".

Osman Kavala today he is 64 years old and a millionaire philanthropist who has always fought and helped the weakest, including those of Kurdish ethnicity and the few Armenians who still live in Turkey. Last week he said he will no longer attend the sham hearings where he is tried. In this regard, the Council of Europe intends to officially condemn Turkey for failing to comply with a Strasbourg ruling calling for Kavala's release.

The position of Italy remains that demonstrated in history, wait and never against anyone. In this case, the 15 billion in trade with the country of the crescent prevailed.
