Quasi 3.300 men and women they are employed outside the national territory, in 16 Countries, in missions under the aegis of the UN, EU and NATO, in assistance activities for local armed and security forces aimed at stabilizing international crisis areas and which contribute substantially to the collective defense and security of the homeland.
Circa 7.800 soldiers guard the territory in 56 provinces distributed throughout the national territory, in collaboration with the Police, as part of the “Safe Roads” Operation, contributing directly to the safety of the population. These results are also the result of the consolidated reconfiguration of the procedures for carrying out supervisory services, from static to more dynamic, which have enhanced the peculiarities of the personnel and ensured even more evident effects in the deterrence, prevention and control of cities.
The operation "Safe RoadsFurthermore, it has provided an important contribution to measures to combat the spread of COVID, operating during the lockdown phase alongside the Police for the respect of social distancing.
To the cited 11.000 soldiers engaged in ongoing operations, others are added 11.000 who are in a state of readiness for national and international needs, for a total of over 22.000 soldiers.
Particularly active in the summer are the assets of the Army Aviation, in competition with the Civil Protection, in the forest fire campaign. Since the beginning of the 2020 season, the Army has already intervened with its helicopters to fight fires in 9 different Italian provinces, not least the fire that developed in Pettino (AQ), in which 50 soldiers from the Multifunctional Battalion "Vicenza "In anti-fire trim by carrying out fire-cutting interventions, of over 2 km, in the impervious terrain of the Apennine woods.
