Extradited Jeff Joy, collaboration against the Nigerian mafias

Extradited to Italy from Nigeria Jeff Joy, one of our country's most wanted fugitives: the woman is inserted, with important roles, in a transnational criminal association dedicated to trafficking in human beings. She recruited women of Nigerian nationality to be sent into prostitution.

The delivery procedure, with the collaboration of Interpol, ended in the afternoon with the arrival at the Roman airport of Ciampino and the woman's transfer to the women's Rebibbia prison. Jeff Joy was wanted in Italy for the crimes of criminal conspiracy, enslavement, trafficking in persons and aiding and abetting illegal immigration, following an execution order for the expiation of the residual 13-year prison sentence issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office general at the Court of Appeal of Ancona.

For the Ministry of Justice, this extradition represents a first important example of collaboration with the Abuja authorities, with a view to a common fight against the Nigerian mafias, among the most active of foreign criminal organizations.

In addition to the extradition agreement, which entered into force on 15 October 2020, the Ministry of Justice has signed two further bilateral agreements with Nigeria: one for mutual legal assistance and a second for the transfer of convicted persons.
