France: only a direct African intervention to resolve the issue of migrants in Libya

Benjamin Griveaux, spokesman for the French government, who spoke at the "Grand Rendez-vous" Sunday radio program of Europe 1, officially clarified the announcement made by President Emmanuel Macron in the margins of the African Union summit held last November 29.

Regarding a task force to rescue African migrants stranded in Libya, the spokesman said: “France will not intervene militarily in Libya. There must be an inter-African force made up of several contingents capable of intervening. France and the European Union can only provide support in terms of intelligence, technical advice, but the operation must be directed by African authorities ”.

Indeed, President Macron's statement had fueled numerous doubts and questions. The French government spokesman specified that on the operational side of this "task force" a meeting is planned between European leaders and leaders from the "G5 Sahel" countries (Chad, Niger, Mali, Mauritania and Burkina Faso), set for 13 December .
