School building plan, presentation with Minister Valditara on 6 December

Among the emergencies in Italy there is that of the inadequacy of many school buildings which are at the limit of usability, in accordance with the stringent reference regulations. The Government has therefore decided to accelerate on a new one School building plan.

Tuesday 6 December the Minister of Education Joseph Vallettara will, in fact, present the School building plan. The Director General for Structural Funds for Education, School Building and Digital School will speak, Gianna Barbieri, and the Director General coordinator of the mission unit for the PNRR of the Ministry, Simona Montesarchio.

In the meantime, children and teenagers have to deal with seasonal ailments due to a sudden rise in temperatures in the face of some delays in turning on the heating and the structural inconvenience of many school complexes whose construction also dates back to over 50 years ago.

In the town of colleferro, for example, the Municipality on its facebook profile announced that the Administration has long since launched a program aimed at improving the energy efficiency of municipal and school buildings, replacing fixtures and windows, as well as heating systems. The commitment led to obtaining two loans for interventions at the Scholastic Institute Dante Alighieri and the Aladin nursery school.

A deadly mix: seasonal flu and Covid infection

In the month of The flu season officially started in November. A usual appointment with the seasonal ailments that after the restrictions, distancing and masks due to Covid, it occurred earlier and with greater virulence . Not just the Covid, but many flu viruses, including the syncitial that affect the respiratory tract and are taking thousands of Italians to bed. According to scientists, it is the onset of seasonal flu that makes it more contagious immune system that in the years in which people have been forced to distance themselves, to wear masks and to avoid meeting opportunities with more people, he found himself less trained in dealing with infections. Complicit in this situation are also the temperatures that abruptly and suddenly dropped. And so many are getting sick, not only from Covid but also from traditional seasonal flu.

It is no coincidence that the monitoring of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, InfluNet, shows a much more active season than in 2020. Last Friday's bulletin reported 9,5 cases for every thousand assisted (6,9 the week before). Among children under 5 years of age, the incidence is 29,6 (was 22,7). The infections in the last 7 days were 506.200. The total since the beginning of the season is 1,8 million.

"After two years, the season started in a more intense and anticipated way. We are already in the midst of the epidemic, despite the fact that the climate has always remained mild", he told the Republic Susanna Esposito, professor of pediatrics at the University of Parma and head of the technical table on infectious diseases and vaccinations of the Sip, the Italian Society of Pediatrics. The doctor emphasizes the especially difficult for children: “The flu this year it manifests itself with even very high fever, sometimes accompanied by vomiting and difficulty breathingAnd. We notice more phenomena of convulsions, linked to the very high temperature. In case of severe symptoms it is advisable to contact the pediatrician rather than crowding the emergency roomsEsposito advises. “We expected a more intense season than in the past, because the winter in the southern hemisphere, which precedes ours, saw the virus circulate a lot".

Esposito recommends the flu vaccinations: "The Ministry offers active and free vaccination to children between six months and six years, but it is also recommended for others to avoid illness, drugs and antibiotics", he said. Given the imminent drop in temperatures, a new peak should also be expected. And for this reason you don't have to wait long to get immunized: "The vaccine takes 10-15 days to be effective" explains Esposito. Children under 9 who have never been vaccinated before need two doses 4 weeks apart. The peak of type A flu has already arrived, but in the second half of the season we also expect a second type B virus. The administered vaccine is of the quadrivalent type and covers both”. The symptoms of Covid and flu are similar, only the swab can give certain answers if you are in the presence of one or the other.
