Gabrielli: "Italian intelligence has never drawn up any list"

The material received by Copasir identifies the channels used for propaganda and reconstructs the contacts. Thus the "machine" triggers counter-information at key moments by attacking pro-Kiev politicians and supporting those on the side of the Russians. So wrote the Corriere della Sera, highlighting the probable dossier activity by our secret services.

The network is complex and varied writes Corsera. It would involve i social networks, TV, newspapers and has as its main objective the conditioning of public opinion. It is activated in the key moments of the conflict, attacking politicians sided with Kiev and supporting those who put forward the pro-Russian theses. The Putinian network alarms the security apparatuses because it tries to orient, or worse boycott, the choices of the government. And she does it relying on parliamentarians and managers, lobbyists and journalists

The material collected by the intelligence identifies the channels used for propaganda, reconstructs the contacts between groups and individual characters and above all the choice of moments in which the network, using multiple social platforms together - from the best known ones such as Telegram, Twitter, Facebook, Tik Tok, Vk, Instagram, to niche ones such as Gab, Parler, Bitchute, ExitNews - starts there counter information.

Gabrielli's denial

After the Copasir investigation yesterday, the Authority delegated to the security of the Republic, Franco Gabrielli, also spoke out. L'Italian intelligence, says the undersecretary, "has never drawn up any list of politicians, journalists, opinion leaders or commentators, nor has he ever carried out dossier activities ". What happened, Gabrielli reports, is that he recently met, "according to routine practice ", The "inter-ministerial working group dedicated to the hybrid threat to national security ".

It is a table "comparison set up since 2019 at the Department of Information for Security and in which the various Administrations competent by subject participate, whose activity, carried out exclusively on the basis of open sources, aims not at identifying individual subjects, but at examination of contents related to the phenomenon of disinformation".

In light of this, the undersecretary concludes, information on an alleged dossier activity and on any lists "they are therefore deprived of any foundation". The publication of the Corriere della Sera article on the "Putinians of Italy”- the best known of which would be the professor of sociology of terrorism Alessandro Orsini and the former senator M5s Vito Petrocelli - dates back to Sunday.

Among the controversies, the Copasir, which is carrying out a fact-finding investigation into Russian disinformation. President Adolfo Urso, as well as the other members, denied that those names were leaked by the Committee, if only for the simple reason that the report requested from Dis on the subject only arrived yesterday on the table of Palazzo San Macuto. And it would be, according to what we learn, precisely the examination produced by the inter-ministerial working group of which Gabrielli spoke today.

It would be the first time that a documentation produced by that body comes to the attention of Copasir. And in those papers, Urso reiterated today, there is a focus “on Russian disinformation, on how it also acts through the network, on how fake news is built, on how it is fed through trolls, social campaigns.

Therefore, there is no ban list and no activity that may concern parliamentarians, God forbid ". It is therefore a scenario report that would contain not names, but circumstances and methodologies implemented by the 'disinformation' of Moscow not only on the occasion of the invasion of Ukraine, but also earlier.

It is certain that hybrid warfare, conducted not with traditional weapons, but through attempts to influence public opinion and decision-making processes using cyber and disinformation, is carefully monitored by Italian intelligence.
