Genoa: the State Police carry out maxi seizure of heroin

The State Police, after seizing a large load of heroin in the Port of Genoa, at the end of a transnational controlled delivery, identifies two members of a criminal organization in the Netherlands.

The State Police, as part of an investigation coordinated by the Genoa Public Prosecutor's Office - District Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate, concluded a controlled delivery of drugs in the Netherlands with the identification of two Turkish subjects, believed to belong to a criminal association with Middle Eastern projections. On 17 October, as part of a detailed police operation launched on the basis of information analyzed and transmitted by the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services and the Central Operational Service, in Genoa, personnel of the Anti-drug Section of the Genoa Mobile Squad and the SCO of Rome seized about 270 kg of heroin in the port of Genoa, inside a container unloaded from the cargo ship “Artabaz”. The monitoring of the containers and the subsequent seizure of the drug were carried out in concert with the specialized personnel of the Customs Agencies. The ship “Artabaz” left the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas for Turkey and Europe, touching the ports of Hamburg, Valencia and Genoa.

In Genoa, they were disembarked from the 31 container ship. From the examination of their bills of lading they appeared of particular interest nr. 3 containers transporting bentonite, or a clayey mineral powder. The investigative investigations on the transport documentation revealed strong doubts about the real recipient of the goods that appeared to be a company based in the Czech Republic. In agreement with the District Anti-Mafia and Antiterrorism Division of Genoa, we proceeded to search and then seize part of the amazing material found in one of the containers, leaving a part there hidden, which was constantly monitored through technical activities. The same Judicial Authority has therefore authorized personnel of the Mobile Squadron of Genoa and the SCO of Rome to carry out a controlled transnational delivery, which has been requested for the first time by Italy, with the issuance of a European Inquiry Order, addressed to various States. (Switzerland, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland). The material was then loaded onto a tug that was discretely followed by the State Police passing through the borders of Switzerland, France, Belgium and Holland, through the coordination of the International Police and Eurojust Cooperation Service.

After a trip of three days, on November 2 date, the vehicle arrived in the Netherlands, Roosendal, where it was made to enter a warehouse, apparently disused, located at a different address from the one on the travel documentation, in order to download the goods. As requested by the Italian EIO, the Dutch Police, together with the personnel of the State Police present there, broke into the interior arresting the subjects present. The investigations continue in order to trace the entire chain that manages the drug traffics that see the port of Genoa confirm, once again, as an important crossroads for the introduction of the loads of drugs, destined also to the rest of Europe.
