Italian Eurofighters replace the Amx in Kuwait against terrorism

Late yesterday morning, on Wednesday 26 March, at the base of Ahmed Al Jaber, the Air Force General Ferdinando Giancotti, Commander of the Air Force Air Force Team, representing the Chief of Defense Staff, he was present at the handover - in technical jargon "Transfer of authority" - among the AMX aircraft and Eurofighter fighters deployed in Kuwait for the operation "Prima Parthica", which constitutes the contribution of the Defense to the international Coalition of contrast to Daesh.

"This ceremony - pointed out General Giancotti - pays tribute to a hard and silent work done in conditionthe climates are particularly difficult and always with excellent results. The Black Cats Task Group staff conducted the operations very well together with the colleagues of the entire Air Task Force, giving a concrete and sensitive contribution to the International Coalition for the security of the area ".

The tasks of Italian aircraft do not change: the four F-2000 fighters will in fact be used in reconnaissance missions and aerial surveillance - in technical jargon Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) - to continue to ensure to the Coalition the required contribution in terms of monitoring and control from above of the theater of operations, sealing their multi-role vocation. Eurofighter fighter activity, which for the first time are redeployed outside national borders with these specific tasks, will go alongside that of the Predator remotely piloted aircraft, again for ISR activities, and that of in-flight refueling with the KC-767A tanker, to support both Italian and coalition aircraft.

Operation "Prima Parthica"

Italy takes part in the multinational coalition against the DAESH terrorists operating in Iraq and Syria. The forces of the various countries that have expressed their intention to join the Coalition are operating under the terms of Art. 51 of the Charter ofONU, as well as Resolutions no. 2170 (2014) of 15 August 2014 and n. 2178 (2014) of the 27 September 2014, based on the request for relief presented the September 20 2014 by the permanent representative of Iraq to the UN to the President of the Security Council.

The Black Cats Task Group, reconstituted on the Al Jaber base in June 2016, after the operational commitment in Afghanistan, worked in close synergy with the other assets of the Coalition, providing a decisive contribution to the operations - 6000 flight hours performed 17000 points of interest and intelligence products created thanks to the reconnaissance systems of which the AMX aircraft is equipped - in addition to the one expressed since 2014 by the other components of the Air Force deployed in Kuwait under the Italian National Contingent Command AIR (IT NCC Air) / Task Force Kuwait. An asset, the AMX, which in 1999 was used for the first time outside the national borders in the NATO "Allied Force" operation in the former Yugoslavia and which in the following twenty years of operational life was largely engaged in real operations .

A new commitment in the international field for the Eurofighters of the Air Force, which in the 2011 participated in the international "Unified Protector" coalition operation and were involved in air defense within NATO, participating in Air Policing operations in Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria, Iceland. THE'Eurofighter, whose main mission is air defense, thanks to the sensors of the Reccelite reconnaissance equipment with which it is equipped will be able to provide the coalition, both day and night, with very high resolution photographic products on land targets. The information and contributions collected and sent in real time to the ground are then enhanced by specialized intelligence cells and made available in the form of analysis.
