GreenIT, the development of four photovoltaic projects in Italy is underway

The joint venture between Plenitude and CDP Equity continues its consolidation process on the market with new plants for a total capacity of up to 200 MW. The new parks will be built in Puglia, Sicily and Lazio with agri-voltaic technology

GreenIT, the Italian joint venture established in 2021, 51% owned by Plenitude (Eni) and 49% by CDP Equity (CDP Group) and active in the production of electricity from renewable sources, has signed an agreement with the companies Hive Energy Limited and SunLeonard Energy Limited for the development of four photovoltaic projects that will have a total capacity of up to 200 MW.

The plants will be built in Puglia, Sicily and Lazio and will be built using agrivoltaic technology which involves the installation of raised structures with the aim of creating a virtuous synergy between agriculture and the production of energy from renewable sources.

The obtaining of the authorizations and the subsequent start-up of the operational phase of the plants are envisaged within the time frame of the 2023-2027 Business Plan, approved by GreenIT last April, which envisages total investments of 1,7 billion euro (including the capital already committed) with the aim of reaching an installed capacity of 1.000 MW.

Once operational, it is estimated that the agri-voltaic parks will be able to satisfy the consumption of around 150 thousand families (calculation based on the estimated average annual electricity consumption of an Italian residential customer equal to 2000 KWh per year according to the data published by Arera in its Report Yearly 2021), thus contributing to the decarbonisation objectives of the Integrated National Plan for Energy and Climate 2030.

The initiative is in line with the GreenIT strategy which also has among its aims the development and construction of offshore and onshore greenfield plants, the implementation of already authorized projects and the repowering at the end of their useful life of existing operating plants with the objective of prolonging and enhancing its production capacity.
