Judicial wounds for Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova accused of fraud in India

New troubles in sight for the Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, who returned from very little to competitive activity after a long disqualification lasting 15 months for the intake of a prohibited substance. Nothing to do this time with the career of the Siberian sports, but problems related to fraud implemented in India.

If his involvement in a 2012 real estate project should be proven, in which context the tennis player, in addition to having played an important role as a witness and with which he seemed to have guaranteed a tennis academy, Maria Sharapova risks incurring major judicial troubles in India, quantifiable in a custodial sentence up to a maximum of 7 years.

The reason is that the project, dating back to 2012, which involved building a skyscraper in Gurugram, a small town of about 900.000 inhabitants, 30 km southwest of New Delhi, has never been built. The complaint was made by one of the buyers of one of the apartments that would have to be constructed and delivered to 2016 inside the building and for which he had already paid the manufacturer 4,3 million rupees corresponding to 56.000 euro.
