Guatemala will transfer the embassy to Jerusalem

The president of Guatemala, Jimmy Morales, announced today his decision to transfer the embassy of the Central American country which was located in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The announcement was made by the president just days after his country allied with the United States and other nations to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the state of Israel.

In a post on Facebook, the president wrote: “Dear people of Guatemala, today I spoke with the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, we talked about the excellent relations we have had as nations since Guatemala has supported the creation of the State of Israel". Morales stressed that the central topic of the conversation was the relocation of the Guatemalan Embassy to Jerusalem and went on to say: "I have instructed the Chancellor to initiate the respective coordination so that it can be so."

Two days ago, the president, referring to the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, said: "We are absolutely certain that it is the right way". Morales added that during his 70 years of relations with Israel, his country has always had this state as an ally and "we must support it".
