The big mess: the two Matteo ready for checkmate

(by Massimiliano D'ELIA) Inciucio between the two Matteo? This is the obsession that has been haunting for grillini and pieddini days. Renzi comes out in the open: "they are all nonsense and nonsense".

Among the corridors of the Parliament halls, many think that Renzi is aiming at the elections shortly to use the current electoral system, the "Rosatellum" which would allow him to be blocked at 3% and therefore, polls in hand, political survival. A system, the Rosatellum, which is also liked by the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, who could thus take home a majority share of 37% that will allow him to be able to impose himself on his allies, Berlusconi Meloni.

Salvini, writes Il Messaggero, would be working under the radar to block the cut of the 430 parliamentarians and therefore "incentivize" senators and deputies to look to early elections without excessive fear. "We know for sure», Says a senior executive,«that the leader of the League will send the necessary signatures, probably also of grillini defectors, to launch the confirmatory referendum at the beginning of January. In this way he will have six more months to try his shoulder and go to the early vote».

The confirmation of what was said on January 12, when the deadline for the collection of signatures for the referendum confirming the cut of the parliamentarians will expire. To date, however, the negotiations on the new electoral law are continuing which must, based on the government agreement between dem and grillini, defuse the "distorting effects on representation" that would be produced by the scissoring of 430 parliamentarians if the current mechanism remained voting, the Rosatellum.

The Pd, the messenger specifies, said yes to the Spanish proportional system (smaller colleges in order to reduce fragmentation) and in the alternative is ready to accept the pure proportional with a 5% barrier. The 5 Stars are on the same position. Renzi, on the other hand, says yes to the 5% threshold and rejects the Spanish system: "It doesn't work, in Spain there have been 4 elections in 4 years because you can't manage a government".

In this surreal atmosphere where you can sail on sight, yesterday the founding father of the Movement, Beppe Grillo went down to Rome to meet his parliamentarians, now in the throes of a nervous breakdown. Returning to the elections with 430 fewer seats and with the grillina debacle makes the nights sleepless of many pentastellated parliamentarians who would see their "short" political parenthesis end in 2020 inside the famous can of tuna.

There are many grillini who are thinking of swelling the ranks of the League to have a faint hope of being candidates and then sitting back on the comfortable chairs of the two Houses of Parliament.

If Matteo Salvini and Matteo Renzi were able to bring the Italians to the elections with the “Rosatellum” system and avoid the cut of the 430 parliamentarians they would make an incredible “checkmate” to inconvenient opponents and allies.
