Companies: Alitalia is interested in the US fund Cerberus

The British financial newspaper "The Financial Times" reveals that the national airline Alitalia has received a proposal that would allow it to remain independent. The step, potentially capable of radically changing the tender for control of the company, comes from Cerberus Capital Management, a US company operating in investment funds and specializing in the recovery of companies in difficulty. The same, already ten years ago, successfully restructured the airline Air Canada.

The US proposal comes a week after EasyJet and Lufthansa, other bidder companies, have already submitted their bids to government commissioners as part of Alitalia's public tender. James Politi, correspondent from Rome of the "Financial Times" explains that the US fund did not want to participate in the tender because it considered the conditions too restrictive and, according to the "Financial Times", the US company is convinced that it can acquire the integrity of Alitalia and to restructure it, guaranteeing its “economic capacity, competitiveness and independence as Italy's national airline”.
